Performance Squad Overview

The Performance Squad is designed for swimmers with elite-level aspirations, focusing on achieving success at national and international levels. Swimmers in this squad are expected to show full commitment to their training and competitive schedule, working towards excellence in regional and national level. This squad offers intense and highly specialized training aimed at optimising performance and developing advanced racing strategies.

Monthly Instalment: £78.00 (paid via Direct Debit)

Performance Squad Criteria

  • Minimum Attendance:
    Swimmers in the Performance Squad must maintain a minimum of 6 pool sessions per week, with at least one weekday morning session, in addition to 2 land training sessions. Consistent attendance is crucial for achieving elite performance and staying on track with the squad’s objectives.
  • Minimum Qualification:
    To join the Performance Squad, swimmers must have achieved an Automatic London Region Qualifying Time and be eligible to compete at the London Regional Championships.
  • Required Equipment:
    • Kickboard, Pull Buoy, Fins, Snorkel, Hand Paddles, and an Exercise Mat are necessary for all sessions to support technical work, strength training, and core development.
    • A working Tempo Trainer is required to help swimmers develop pacing and timing skills.
    • Swimmers must also bring either two 500ml water bottles or one 1L bottle to each session to maintain proper hydration during training.

Performance Squad Aims and Aspirations

The Performance Squad is designed for swimmers aiming to excel at the highest levels of competitive swimming. The key aims and aspirations include:

  • National Level Achievements:
    Swimmers are expected to compete and excel at the Regional Championships, with aspirations of becoming national qualifiers, medallists, champions, and even National Record Holders.
  • England Talent Programme:
    High-performing swimmers are encouraged to aim for selection in the prestigious England Talent Programme, providing a pathway to higher competitive success.
  • Regional and County Success:
    • At the regional level, swimmers are expected to become Regional Finalists, Champions, Qualifiers, and Record Holders.
    • At the county level, swimmers should strive to be County Champions, Medallists, and Finalists, demonstrating their progress within their age groups and against regional competitors.

Competitions (Minimum Requirement)

Swimmers in the Performance Squad must participate in at least 6 competitions per season. These must include the following key events:

  • Borough of Harrow Club Championships
  • Middlesex County Championships
  • London Regional Championships

Regular competition participation is essential for maintaining performance levels, testing race strategies, and tracking progress throughout the season.

Progression Path

Swimmers who meet the squad’s high standards will continue to progress towards elite-level competitions, including national and international events. However, swimmers who do not meet the minimum attendance or competition participation standards will be reassigned to Youth Squad.

What to Bring to Each Session

Swimmers must bring the following equipment to every session:

  • Kickboard
  • Pull Buoy
  • Fins
  • Snorkel
  • Hand Paddles
  • Exercise Mat
  • Working Tempo Trainer
  • Two 500ml water bottles or one 1L water bottle
  • Club kit for poolside (including a club swim hat and t-shirt)

Swimmers must be prepared for both high-intensity race preparation and technical drills to ensure maximum performance.

Swimmers in the Performance Squad are expected to demonstrate full commitment to their training and competition schedules. Regular attendance, a disciplined approach to land training, and participation in key competitions are critical for achieving success at the highest levels. Swimmers who meet the squad’s standards will be prepared for a future in elite competitive swimming, paving the way for national and international recognition.
