Regional Age Squad Overview
The Regional Age Squad is designed for swimmers who have reached a high level of competitive experience and are focused on achieving top performance at regional and national levels. This squad offers intensive training aimed at further refining stroke technique, racing strategies, and overall fitness to excel in high-level competitions. Swimmers in this squad are committed to pushing their limits and progressing towards national recognition.
Monthly Fee: £73.00 (paid via Direct Debit)
Regional Age Squad Criteria
- Minimum Attendance:
Swimmers in the Regional Age Squad must maintain a minimum attendance of 5 pool sessions per week, with at least one weekday morning session and one land training session.
- Progression to Performance Squad: To be considered for the Performance Squad, swimmers must demonstrate 6 sessions per week, with at least one weekday morning session. Consistent attendance is essential for progression.
- Minimum Qualification:
- Swimmers must achieve at least one Middlesex County Qualifying Time (QT) in their age group during the competition season.
- Swimmers must also be within 2% of a London Region Qualifying Time (RQT) or have already achieved one.
- Required Equipment:
- Kickboard, Pull Buoy, Fins, Snorkel, and Hand Paddles are essential for every session to support stroke technique development and strength training.
- Swimmers must also bring either two 500ml water bottles or one 1L water bottle to each session to stay hydrated.
Regional Age Squad Aims and Aspirations
The Regional Age Squad focuses on helping swimmers achieve competitive success at regional and national levels, as well as preparing for future elite competitions. Key aims and aspirations include:
- Participation in the England Talent Programme:
Swimmers in this squad are encouraged to work towards being selected for the England Talent Programme, a prestigious pathway for top-level athletes.
- Regional and County Success:
- Swimmers are expected to achieve results such as becoming Regional Finalists, Champions, or Record Holders.
- At the county level, swimmers aim to become County Champions, Medallists, or Finalists.
- IM-Focused Training Program:
Training in the squad will have a strong emphasis on Individual Medley (IM), ensuring swimmers are proficient in all four strokes and well-prepared for IM events.
- Competitions (Minimum Requirement):
Swimmers must participate in a minimum of 6 competitions per season, which include the following key events:
- Borough of Harrow Club Championships
- Middlesex County Championships
- London Regional Championships
Progression Path
Swimmers who meet the required performance and attendance standards in the Regional Age Squad will be considered for progression to the Performance Squad.
- Progression to Performance Squad:
To progress to the Performance Squad, swimmers must:
- Achieve at least one London Region Qualifying Time (RQT) and compete in that age group at the London Regional Championships.
- Be eligible to compete at the Youth Championships (aged 15 and over) or be ranked in the top 30 in their age group if younger.
- Reassignment Based on Performance:
- Swimmers who do not meet the minimum attendance and competition participation requirements may be moved to either the Youth Squad or the Youth Development Squad, depending on their age and overall training performance standards.

What to Bring to Each Session
Swimmers are expected to bring the following equipment to every training session:
- Kickboard
- Pull Buoy
- Fins
- Snorkel
- Hand Paddles
- Two 500ml water bottles or one 1L water bottle
- Club kit for poolside (including a club swim hat and t-shirt)
Swimmers must be prepared for a mix of technical drills, endurance training, and high-intensity sets.
