Winter Regionals Report – 1st & 2nd November 2025

2 November 2025

The Borough of Harrow swimmers delivered an outstanding set of performances at the Winter Regional Championships this weekend. Across all events, our athletes showed impressive technical and competitive progress, with a high percentage of personal best times recorded throughout the meet.

Improvements in underwater skills, stroke efficiency, and pacing strategies were evident in every session, reflecting the hard work and commitment shown in training over recent months.

💪 Strong Performances Across the Board

Freestyle and backstroke stood out as major highlights, with many swimmers demonstrating excellent control in their turns and breakouts. The solid aerobic base built since September gave our athletes the stamina to perform consistently across multiple races, while their technical execution remained sharp under pressure.

Although breaststroke events proved more challenging overall, this was largely due to limited stroke-specific work earlier in the season. This will become a key development area in the next training cycle as we continue to strengthen all four strokes.

🥇 Spotlight on Mia Garner

A huge congratulations to Mia Garner, who produced a sensational performance to win gold in the 200m Backstroke at the London Winter Regionals.
At just 14 years old, Mia won the 16 & Under category with a three-second personal best, clocking an incredible 2:17.61.

She also achieved Swim England Winter National Qualification Times in both the:

  • 100m Backstroke – 1:04.63

  • 200m Backstroke – 2:17.61

These are outstanding results and a testament to her dedication, focus, and consistency in training. Mia’s strong back-end speed and composure under pressure were remarkable — an unbelievable achievement for her age, and a defining moment in her journey toward December’s Swim England Winter National Championships.

The GoCardless Swim England National Winter Championships is the biggest English swimming meet of the winter months, with Britain’s top senior swimmers often involved.

🔁 Building Toward the Next Phase

The squad’s overall energy, recovery, and resilience across the weekend were highly encouraging. It’s clear that the current balance between workload and recovery is allowing swimmers to peak effectively at key competitions.

As we move into the next training block, focus will shift toward:

  • Consolidating aerobic conditioning

  • Increasing stroke-specific development (particularly breaststroke)

  • Introducing controlled race-pace and anaerobic work

  • Maintaining a strong emphasis on technical precision in starts, turns, and underwaters

Congratulations once again to all our swimmers and coaches for their commitment, progress, and professionalism throughout the Winter Regionals. The season is building momentum — and the best is yet to come!
