The Middlesex County Swimming Championships 2027 will take place over two weekends in February at the London Aquatic Centre.

The Middlesex County Championships are one of the major competitions in the swimming calendar and provide swimmers with the opportunity to compete against some of the best swimmers within the county.

BHSC swimmers are encouraged to work towards achieving the published Middlesex qualification standards during licensed competitions throughout the season.

Important: Please ensure you use the 2027 standards and your swimmer’s age as at 31 December 2027 when checking qualification.
Championship Dates: 6, 7, 13 & 14 February 2027
Venue: London Aquatic Centre, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park
Licence: Level 1
Age Groups: 10&11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17+

2027 Qualifying & Consideration Times

Middlesex publishes two standards for most events:

Qualifying Time – QT

A swimmer who achieves the published Qualifying Time (QT) for their age group and event meets the main qualification standard for that event.

Consideration Time – CT

The Consideration Time (CT) is slightly slower than the Qualifying Time.

Achieving a Consideration Time allows a swimmer to be considered for entry, but does not guarantee that the entry will be accepted.

If an event is oversubscribed, Middlesex may restrict entries and give priority to the fastest submitted swimmers.

Swimmers should therefore aim to achieve the Qualifying Time wherever possible rather than relying on a Consideration Time.

Age Groups

A swimmer’s competition age for the 2027 Championships is their age at:

31 December 2027

  • 10/11 Years
  • 12 Years
  • 13 Years
  • 14 Years
  • 15 Years
  • 16 Years
  • 17 Years & Over
Example: A swimmer who is 12 during the February Championships but turns 13 later in 2027 will compete as a 13-year-old.

How to Qualify

To qualify for the Middlesex County Championships, swimmers must achieve the published Middlesex time standard for the specific event and age group they wish to enter.

Qualification is event-specific. Achieving a qualifying time in one event does not automatically qualify a swimmer for another event.

Example: Qualifying for the 100m Freestyle does not automatically qualify the swimmer for the 50m Freestyle, 200m Freestyle or any other event.

Official Times

Entry times must be genuine official times achieved by the swimmer at an appropriate licensed swimming competition and recorded within the Middlesex qualifying period.

Short Course and Long Course

Middlesex publishes separate qualifying standards for performances achieved in:

  • Short Course (SC) – 25 metre pools
  • Long Course (LC) – 50 metre pools

Swimmers should compare their result against the table that matches the pool course in which the time was achieved.

Example

If a swimmer achieves a 100m Freestyle time at a competition held in a 25 metre pool, they should compare that time with the Short Course 100m Freestyle standard for their age group.

If the performance is achieved in a 50 metre pool, they should use the Long Course table.

Working Towards County Qualification

Swimmers aiming to qualify for the County Championships should:

  • Attend training consistently.
  • Compete regularly at suitable licensed galas.
  • Monitor their personal best times.
  • Compare their results against the published 2027 County standards.
  • Discuss target events with their coach.
  • Speak to their coach about suitable upcoming competitions where they may have an opportunity to achieve or improve a qualifying time.

Swimmers who are close to a QT or CT should continue working towards improving their personal bests throughout the season.

Your squad coach can help identify the events in which you are closest to qualifying and advise on suitable competitions and events.

How to Enter Through BHSC

Entries Will Be Made Through Club Organiser

The Middlesex County Championships 2027 will be set up as a gala within Club Organiser.

Parents and swimmers must submit their own entries through Club Organiser before the BHSC club closing date.

Important: Achieving a County qualifying or consideration time does not automatically enter the swimmer into the Championships. An entry must still be submitted through Club Organiser.

Before Entering

Before submitting an entry, parents and swimmers should check:

  • The swimmer’s correct 2027 age group.
  • That the swimmer has achieved the required QT or CT.
  • That the qualifying performance appears on the swimmer’s official Swim England record.
  • That the correct Short Course or Long Course standard is being used.
  • That the swimmer is available for the relevant Championship dates and sessions.
  • That the correct events have been selected.
  • Any advice given by the swimmer’s squad coach regarding suitable events.

Coach Advice

If a swimmer qualifies for a large number of events, we recommend discussing the programme with their coach rather than automatically entering every event for which they are eligible.
